hi guys, i have a Dymax PH1800 return pump, however the vibrating noise it makes is starting to get to me,

do you know any brands that are dead silent while operating?

this includes minimal vibration of the tank or rocks.

Go to the store and get a silicon trivet. Place said trivet under your pump and vollia!!! Silent pump.

If you don't care about cost, ehiem are the best.

If you are in a budget, I believe maxi jet utility pumps run very silent for a very average price. I run two on my setup, and can't hear them. The bio pellets tumbling in the reactor is the loudest sound coming from the tank.

I never had any complains with Ocean Runner or Eheim over the last 10 years of using them. I recently switched to an Octopus Water Blaster though and this thing is amazing!

I run a maxi jet NJ3000 and I agree, basically silent. The Cobalt MJ-600 on my carbon reactor makes far more noise ;)

So what do you like about it? I know it is a quality pump. (Yes China can make crap, and they can also make quality.) The numbers are in line and their skimmer pumps are a very good range of specific pumps... but I have sort of heard they can be noisy. Not bad, just not great like Ehiem, Red Dragon...ect.

So how is noise and vibration?

I had a Ehiem and even that is not "silent". I was sort of disappointed in that, but my setup had a lot to do with it.

Any pump is only as good as what it is attached to. Hard piped of even flex PVC will transmit a lot of vibration and noise.

Using tygon is softer, but gets harder the bigger it is, and it will harden over time. Some sort of flexible soft connection will isolate noise, and then you have to isolate it from the pump sitting in the sump.

Some sort of vibration absorbing pad goes a long way. Several types to choose from that are safe in our system, but they really help a lot.

There is no pump that will be "silent". Noise is a subjective thing, silent to some is noisy to others. And background noise or other equipment can hide a loud pump most have always thought of as quiet.
