    Hi guys,

I really want to get a pod population going but I don't have a refugium. Unfortunately I can't do a below tank or hang on the back but I was searching and found these in tank refugiums. For the sole purpose of breeding pods would one of these work?

    Thanks!

Not familiar with an in tank refugium, but you can put chaeto in various types of containers place it in your tank and it will provide a great place for pods to reproduce.

Yeah it's pretty much an acrylic box with holes and a pump. I tried looking for the boxes they use to keep fish in when they're about to bag them for you but can't find any anyone know where I can get one?

Yeah the in tank ones will work. I was going to get one before I set up my refugium but since I only have a 20 gallon, the in-tank fuge would have taken up a lot of space. Those containers are just specimen containers. You can get them at petsmart(that's where i got mine).

I'm sure you could DIY one of those containers into an in-tank fuge.

As mentioned you *could* - I think its rather unsightly myself, but each to their own. Do you have rock in this tank? If so that’s plenty for pods to thrive – you can seed the tank in the evenings with the lights off, giving the pods the most opportunity to get into the crevices and multiply.

Copepods thrive and multiply quickly amongst live rock. I think the Nauplii (babies) mature in under 2 weeks. Once they make it to the rock they replicate fast enough to feed the tank and continue to multiply.

You can have the population you are looking for (probably already do). If you are ever concerned you can always drop in a $15 bottle once every other month of pod's. Marine Depot sells then....but I suspect you will be fine. The live rock offers plenty of hiding space for a thriving population.

But if you really want that intank refugium, here is a link to an affordable one on Dr.s F&S: Aquarium Refugiums: In-Tank Refugium

Yeah I would start with getting the in-tank fuge or modifying the specimen container. I've tried seeding my main tank before with pods but I've never seen them walk around on the lr in the display tank, only in the fuge. My clowns pick them off too quickly. I've had 2 scooter blennies and both attempts were unsuccessful.

If you are looking for a cheaper DIY route, I remember seeing a post about a homemade pod habitat. The creator used some cheap mesh from home depot and zip ties. Put them together in cylindrical shape, and put LR rubble for the pods to live on and just put it in the DT.
