So how exactly do I interact in the group buy coming up in a couple of weeks? Guess I could PM the thread starter assuming that's allowed at my current level. Oh :) guess this counts as a post as well.

I understand the struggles with spammers, I've run a Invision board in the past so it's always a bit of drama.

You don't. You are not eligible to the 3Reef Marketplace until April 24th. There are many group buys so you will just have to wait until the next one. You have 30 days to help other people to get your 50 posts to meet that requirement as well.

I would HIGHLY recommend against PM'ing Reefmonkey and trying to skirt the rules.

Sorry I sent him a PM prior to reading this. Well I don't quite understand why the policy is that harsh but it's not my call. I'd have to disagree that jumping on a group buy at a vendor location setup by another valid member here should be considered under the "buying, selling or purchasing" clause. A new member setting up a group buy on the other hand would make sense to restrict.

Guess I'll go it on my own then...

Update: Well I looked around and found a subscription seems to fix this problem. Works for me. : )

Ok I tried to send a PM but it never shows in my sent box or says successful. So I'm either not worthy of PM'ing someone now or I need X posts to do it. I know this is going to start a flame war, which I don't want but I guess I'm left to post it here and see since my PM ability doesn't seem to work now and I've tried multiple times and ways before resorting to this post.

Overall I'd say I'm disgusted with the way this is being handled. So I guess I'll say "in before the lock and boot" at this point.

Below is the PM I tried to send Matt.

Swore I replied to this but since I don't see it in my sent folder I'll send it again.

First of all as a new person on the site I understand the "you can't post stuff under the wanted, etc... folder because you may be a spammer" policy.

Here is what I don't understand...

    1. I didn't start the topic under the wanted forum, only looking to jump in on a current group buy that is on-going. That doesn't seem to be outside of the spirit of the rules. I'm not spamming BUY FROM ME...

    2. So I subscribed to show support for the site and gained access that way. Paid membership should trump having to jump through the hoops of the "you must have X posts to do things" rule.

I even requested to purchase some stuff from another person on here because I'm setting up a new tank in that same forum.

My 2cents... It's your site so you can do as you please but here are the problems I see. The requirement to "help" others is pointless seeing I've been out of the scene since 1995. So what "help" am I supposed to do?

Excuse my language but I think this rule and the current enforcement is just being a complete bunch of jerkoffs. By keeping new people out of the wanted / sale area is removing potential clients from purchasing equipment from other members that would come in. Additionally realizing I've gotten through and then refunding my subscription is completely short-sighted IMO.

While I'd like to be a member here, I've got a 110 gallon tank coming in that I'd like to get equipment for and setup to THEN be able to join in the discussion. You know I could just leech off here like everyone else does...

There is a fine line between protecting the site from spammers and garbage, getting people to contribute and help, and being a complete ass about it.

You are reading waaaaaaay too much into this.

Members who have been around for years can't comment in the 3Reef Marketplace. I'm a moderator and I cannot comment nor post either. A forum hiccup is going on that will be resolved.

This ISN'T ABOUT YOU. This is all about forum upgrades.

Didn't realize that. Here a couple of things you may want to fix to make thing a bit more understandable.

As a 3reef member you can sell your old aquarium equipment or legal livestock on this board if you like. No commercial impostors allowed. You must have at least 50 posts to post an ad. Read the rules here.

The bold above link cannot be read by either the "guest" user or by my current status "Plankton". Also it states 50 posts to post an ad vs. 50 posts to gain access to the forum / reply to threads which isn't very clear.
