I was wondering if I ever upgraded to a 100+g tank, how fragile are the Indo Tusks vs the Australian ones. I ask because my LFS seems to be able to acquire Indo juveniles fairly easily. I'd like to grow one out rather than get a $200 Australian one that was already larger.

Just wondering if there's any Indo Tusk owners out there and how your Tusk did or is doing. I know the cyanide harvesting method has been an issue in the past (making many of the fish die suddenly), wondering if it still is?

    Thanks!

oh boy, somebody slap me, I just got a tiny little Indo Tusk. I couldn't resist! The LFS just got in the smallest one I'd ever seen them get. He's in my 55g reef for now but he's so small maybe 2". I am going to upgrade my tank when I move in a few months. I'm excited but am keeping watch on how he is with my inverts. I hope the Tusk police (subdivision of the Tang police) don't come for me!

I will post some pics later tonight.

    1,000th post yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Here is the Australian one in the Psu tank. It is very passive and a voracious eater when feeding time comes around.

Nice Dingo, I've always loved Tusks before I ever went SW I wanted one & was so bummed after I learned more about how big of a tank they need. Mine has been very shy, he's so small. I'm hoping he does well for the time he'll be in the 55g. Is yours in a 90g? How is he with your shrimps or CUC if you have them?

I know the Australian variants are more colorful and hardy but every small Tusk they've gotten was Indo, I guess the Australian ones are tough to find this small.

That one is in the PSU tank - and that tank is huge! I can't remember the exact size. Hopefully Trent will chime back in.

Congrats on your new baby! :) Hope he gets braver soon so we can see a pic!

Here's a comparison of their looks. Also says they are very shy when small. So your little guy is normal!

it is in a 500g lol! the only inverts in there are a purple reef lobster (which is too large for him to eat), some urchins, and some snails the size of my fist! lol so there arent any inverts that he could pick on in there. He is real nice and will swim right up to you if your hand is in there... but with those insane daggers for teeth I am scared to be near him when theres food floating around!
Also when he snatches nori off the surface of the water you can hear his jaws snap shut and it sounds like bone cracking when he does this! very intimidating ;)

Im sure once yours gets big enough he will eat any shrimp you have, its just their nature as being a wrasse :-/

Thanks KC for the link, I'm just a tad jealous of the Aussie ones they have that beautiful blue coloration, but my little Indo is so much cheaper & smaller than any Aussie one I can find. If they can order me a very small Aussie one this size I may swap, who knows. I will get pics for ya don't worry!

Trent, wow 500g, that's a bit bigger than my 55g :). I totally hear you on him becoming much more of a terror to the inverts as he gets bigger, def their nature. I really impulse bought him, it's not horrible as he's so small but I fully intend to get him into a bigger system.

That's nuts about his teeth, I am scared now !
