    In my mind was 9~12 months. Some of these critters take a long time to die. You can watch a fish that won't eat get skinnier and skinnier and die. You can't watch the slow starvation of anemones, feather dusters, sponges, etc.

    I had a sea apple for about a year before I gave him away after the seam in our tank gave out.

    IMO it wasnt that hard to care for, but like Curt says you must have a stable tank with good filter. They require a lot of feeds of phyto but are absolutely gorgous. Mine was doing very well and never moved. They do not tolerate nitrates very well.

    As far as toxins, the bigger the tank the better. If an apple dies in a 40g it is going to be more catastrophic then if it dies in a 130g. Like said above, make sure you run a lot of carbon and watch the body of the apple.

    here is a picture of mine. Like I said I gave it away after the tank broke because I knew it was going to be a while before my new tank was stable enough.
