Ive had my 29 gallon livestock-turned-reef tank for nearly 3 years. With so many LFSs in south Florida, and websites to learn from, its been trial and error, as with most. Over the past 6 months, Ive figured out a strong maintenance program (challenging but possible w/o a protien skimmer).
Here is my dilema. I purchased 2 firefish 5 months ago ...they go up and down in weight vastly altho they eat well ad are fairly laid back and not easily intimidated. I feed 1/2 cube mysis shrimp every other day, and all seem to do well with that ...anymore than that raises my nitrates and phosphates. One firefish died today and the one is alone. Should I purchase another or will the remaining be ok solo?
(FYI ..inhabitants: Hatian anemone, Xenia, Zoanthids (all small and starters as of 4 months ago ...and all thriving). 1 Royal Grama, 1 blue/yellowtail damsel, 1 oc clown, 1 blood shrimp and 1 cleaner shrimp ...a few hermits and tons of tiny white snails and copopods). All get along very well and have outgoing but non-aggressive personalities. Thanks again for your feedback =)

PS- My paramaters are all on spot other than nitrates within the "ideal" but on the higher side of it.

You may want to vary the diet a bit. You could add some flake food that is high in Speralina this will help with the vegie part of the fishes diet.

Fire fish are funny. If you where to get another they may get along but may also fight. It's hit and miss

It will be fine alone but you could try adding another one. Just watch for aggression.

In most cases, no. Firefish usually fight to the death if they are not a mated pair. This could be what happened to the first one.

I started my tank about 3 months ago and have only 1 firefish. I have been contemplating getting him a companion but he does seem to be alright alone.
