Hey Everyone, I.ve not been online in a while due to a house fire :( which desrtoyed our home, and alas, all our tanks. But, not one to be kept down I've started over with a 75 gal. tank, which is home to 3 yellow tangs and an assortment of small damsels, as well as 1 false bar clown. I just recieved 2 engineer gobies from a friend. Does anyone have any info they could share on these fish? They seem happy but do hide in the LR most of the time. Is this typical or are they still freaking out over the environment change?

Engineer gobies need to have a deep sand bed to be happy as they love to burrow. They are interesting fish, but do grow large rather quickly and can cause some destruction by removing sand from under the rocks and cause cave-ins.

I have a Shrimp Goby. They do like to hide in/under rocks. Mine does come out durring the day to sit on the sand in plain view sometimes. If you just got the fish in the last day or so this hiding behavior is normal. Sorry to hear about your fire. That must be horrible. We will pray for you.

Engineer goby's are a blast. I like to watch them tunnel. And yes it is normal for them to stay out of sight most of the time.
Make sure your live rock is on the glass with the sand around it or they will undermine the foundation. They are very peacefule and hardy. IME they will eat mostly anything that is thrown at them. Switch it up to keep them happy.
Did you know that they can grow to lengths of 16"? Enjoy them and get a picture when you can.

Thanks for the info everyone, and the great pic. Diver. That's the fish alright, and no, I had no idea they can reach 16 in. WOW. Are they a danger to smaller fish at that size?

I don't know I've never had one that big :D
Although everything I have read says that they are peaceful.
    I guess we'll find out.

Bruce, I have to admit that most of the blennys that I have seen have stolen my heart as well. :) I now have a scooter and a bi-color. The scooter is a kick as it just does "laps" around the tank--not scared by much. The bi-color--on the other hand--is a total fraidy fishy. He is gradually coming out of it-though.
