Has anyone on here tried this method
if so , how much vinegar is enough per pest nem

trying this at present, with varying degrees of success
some seem to have been killed, others seem to be back in action the day after the injection

it is possible my aim was off
it is also possible that I did not inject enough vinegar into some of them?

anyone with any experience or advice on this method?

    Steve

Was just getting ready to ask this. My first satan spawn arrived right in the middle of a big colony of plays(4 months after they've been in). Debating vinegar verse lemon juice verse boiling water.

Boiling lemon juice or vinegar may get stinky, but doubles the chances??? maybe

I've done vinegar, actually it's my main tool for riding my tank of aptasia. The biggest thing is you actually have to penetrate the flesh. Often I've gone right through and missed. The vinegar doesn't work well if you can't get into the aptasia

    could be worth considering cosmo

natural predation is something I considered, but my options are limited
peppermint shrimps I have only seen once in 2 years, Nudis, never seen available, Aiptasia eating file fish, again not seen any
the only commonly available option I have is the copperband, and to be honest the problem is not that bad, and I do not want to end up with a problem feeder once the nems are gone

I think that is my issue, Jason, I may have stabbed right through some of them
any ideas how many mils of vinegar you would need for these pests of various sizes

can you hit them anywhere, would stabbing in the top be as succesful as stabbing in the stem?
some of them are in deep holes and the stem is not visible, just the extended crown is the only target I have for these

[IMG]reefling, peppermints are a hit or miss, not really reliable solution. copper band butterfly's will eat them and then other stuff, i.e. coral.

berghia nudibranches are your best bet, but when the aip's are gone, they die

i always used a $10 butane torch for mine, but now i have 1 in the middle of some paly's that i don't want to fry. But a cheap little butane torch works wonders. Granted tht method requires removal of the rock!

i got lucky the first time around... my 55 was completely over run by them like, 100+ (didn't know any better...) picked up 2 or 3 pep shrimp and they cleaned it out within a week. couldn't believe how fast they were.

    update

I have now managed to terminate a few of these pests using Vinegar
as Jason stated, the hardest part is making sure you do in fact inject into the flesh of the nem
it is really easy to go right through and end up carbon dosing with the vinegar

I found that removing the rock (when possible and practical) allowing the nem to deflate, and then injecting it, has given me 100% success rate on those

Trying to inject them whilst still in the main tank has been hit and miss, and if I was generous to myself, I would say I have a 50% success rate

    I need more practice , I believe

I would be worried about using anything boiling around the paly's. I've heard palytoxin can be aerosoled in this way making your lungs a convenient avenue for it to make it into the blood stream.
