The clown hosts a feather duster worm (I have pics, it's funny). It did try to host the frogspawn once, but I think the frogspawn stung him because he shot to the other side of the tank quickly. Doesn't mean he hasn't been wollering on it when I'm not looking...but I work, watch tv, play the Wii with the kids, etc. in the same room with the tank so I'm usually watching it unless I'm in bed. (makes for a sad husband...)

The only coral even close is a green star polyp and it's above it and 6-8 inches away.

So, is the consensus that if I just leave it alone and get my critters to leave it alone that it'll just heal? I'd really hate to do nothing and lose it, but I don't want to over treat it either.

Good answer. It's not the clowns most likely. It's most likely the sexy shrimp. Everyone has heard of Anemone Fish (i.e. clownfish)....well there are anemone shrimp too. And sexy shrimp would fall into that category.

I would target feed that puppy....It's being irritated by a shrimp that thinks it's an anemone and is not getting enough food.

That spot is from you or someone else touching that head either wile cutting it from the parent colony . Wash your hands well and rinse them and then pull the head from the tank set in in a 1/2 gallon of tank water add 40 drops of iodine and soak it for 15 to 20 min. Its an infected area caused buy body oils and the tissue is receding . I always wash my hands in Dial antibacterial soap and or latex gloves at work at home just a good washing .

I would like to add, or may I ask! have you moved it from another place, or has it been there since you got it? maybe is not in it's happy place, and all you need to do is put him in a place with moderate current.
