Can anyone help? We have a Blue dotted sting ray who has developed a small circular open wound below his mouth about 4 days ago. It has gotten slightly worse over the four days and doesn't seem to be healing.

The tank is 75 gallons, fine white sand substrate with live rock in one corner. He is the only one in the tank. We have had him almost 1 year.

Any ideas on how to care for him? What medications would help?

Thanks for any and all help!

Dont know what to tell you other then that tank is WAY to small for a ray.......do you have LR in there, like alot? It might have injured its self on the rock being such a cramped area....sorry if this sounds mean not trying to be just the truth

it's standard. Junior has gotten bigger over the past year, so maybe it is time to move him to a bigger tank.

Any thoughts on how to treat his sore?

It should heal on its own from my exp with fish. If hes eating and acting normal, no need to add extra stress just yet, let it be untill he doesnt act normal or stops eating. hpe this helps and is just MO so dont quote me on it lol

Elasmobranchs tend to heal quickly, however if the sore on it's mouth seems to be getting worse or looks like it is getting infected, you can try treating it with a nitrofurazone product (many brands of nitrofurazone are available at your local fish store). Depending on what you have in the tank you can treat directly in your aquarium for 5 days or dose orally in food. hope this helps.
