I bought a baby atlantic blue tang last night and this morning I woke up to find his fins top and bottom have been nipped at so they are a little frayed at the ends, he also looks like he has what looks to be a small bruise on his side now...I know this was caused by my POS 3 stripe damsel which has now been banished from the tank (finally). I'm wondering other than making sure he eats well, which he still is, is there anything that I can do or add to the tank to help him heal up and prevent his injuries from becoming worse than than they are now?

I've heard of this stuff called fish keeper but I'm not sure how effective this stuff is or if it would be helpful...Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks.

Whenever my angel decides to have a beat fest on my tang, I just make sure the water is good and the tang is eating well. I'll also add extra vitamins to the food.

I think some people put in Melafix to help prevent infections or something. But I dunno if that actually helps or not! I've never heard of the fish keeper, sorry.

I hope he heals up fast!

I have had a few battles from my damsel in the tank. IMO damsels should not even be sold but anyway on topic I have seen my tangs beat up a few times over the years they heal. I have a blue spot yellow goby that gets beat by my coral banded all the tiem and it recovers the fish is about 4-5 in long and gets beat up by a shrimp and taks it. I would think it would move out of the way.

Happy to say that the tang has made it through the weekend, since the bully was removed he has been out swimming and eating everday when I feed plus munching algae off the veggie clip. The frayed fins are already looking better but the little bruise like marks on his side are still there unfortunately. I'm guessing it's nothing major since he seems to be fine at this juncture...I just worry that he could take a turn for the worse any moment due to the fact that tangs are usually quite sensitive fish and he is a baby but so far so good :cheesy:

Glad to hear he's doing better!! You could add melafix to the water if you're worried about infection, but then you have to turn off your skimmer, and when you turn it back on it will bubble like crazy, blah blah... LOL that's why I don't use that stuff.

    Hope he keeps improving!

Thanks, I figure if he is doing better already that I may was well just keep doing what I'm doing rather than introduce anything new to the environment and risk a bad reaction from him or any other tank mates.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
So glad it all turned out alright. Removing the offender was an excellent idea and I agree leave well enough alone at this point.

    Good work.:)

Glad to hear that it all worked out in the end. With my Tangs when they were all introduced a little melafix and vitamins in the food kept them healthy. Now the tank is to a point If a fish gets a torn fin ever its healed within a day.

:D Any pics of the baby tang!?!
