And for I hope allot longer...

Am not quite certain anyone knows for sure life span of many of the fish we keep in our tanks.

My Yellow Tang, Coral Beauty, Damsels, Shrimp Goby, Mandarin, Bi-Color Blenny have all been with me for over six years now.

Other forum members probably have had them much longer.

A stress free tank as possible is key I believe

Fish are compatible (no predators), water params stable and within range, good feeding habits, regular water changes with a standard brand salt mix, all contribute to a much more comfortable environment then fish actually experience in wild.

"Insha'allah" ("God Willing") they will be around for a lot longer!!!

    ;D

great fish but as previously stated, they have alot of feeding requirements, i personally would not suggest one unless you have a sump or fuge because unless you have a huge tank, and if i remember correctly you have a 30 which is not huge, you pod population will eventually die off. the sump/fuge allows the pods a place to live so that your tank can be constantly replenished with them

I've had a mandarin for about a month now, and he's been pretty happy grazing on the live pods as well as chomping down "arcti-pods" (refrigerated). My only complaint is that he's so shy I rarely see him. We'll see how well he does in the long run, since (once again) I ignored all advice and put him into a 6 month old 30 gal. I never learn...

Before I pulled down my 75g with sump to make room for a 125g, we added our mandirn after 10 months to the main tank and found that it did very well for about 6 months....over that time we observed a constant decrease in the visible "bugs" in the substrate of the main tank... around 6 months the mandrin began to lose weight... so we sold it back to the lfs....

    They have a big appetite...

I purchased one a few years ago when my tank was still newer and lost him within a few months due to not having a good pod population and he would not eat anything else. About a year ago I decided to try again because my tank had a large pod population and ordered one from liveaquaria. He came in great health and eats EVERYTHING I feed it (mysid, brine, arctipods, etc). It does search and eat the pods in the tank as well and has grown close to an inch since I purchased it. Definitely a cool fish and if you get one that eats frozen food your lucky, otherwise make sure you have lots of pods. IMO you may want to try a scooter blenny first (if you haven't already). They seem to accept frozen / refrigerated food (mostly brine and arctipods) a lot more for some reason - I've had a pair for 2 1/2 years now and they are doing great!
