    Hi Guys,

It is day 17 for my 20 gallon tank and I just added 3 fire shrimp, 4 emerald crabs and 10 astrea snails. Algae growth is much to rapid, In the morning I wil wake up and clean my glass and I get back at night and the glass will get covered. Also the sand has tons of purple/green algae with hair algae on top of it. I have 4.8 watts/gal, so a good amount but not insane. I also have a skimmer, filter and heater all working fine. Can anyone help me stop it? Thanks.

Did you check all your water parameters?

Although the snails and crabs are good for clean up, they contribute to the fueling of algae growth through their deification in a still cycling tank. A full cycle will take up to 6-8 months. Use Chemi-Clean or Red Slime Remover for the Cyano on the sand. Both products are perfectly safe and are a stop gap measure until you get the water cleaned up. Add live bacteria at double the marine dose to help the biological filtration. "Algone" is a great product to rid the tank of excess nutrients and is all natural.

Do a search here for Algae Scrubber, find AV8's thread on Algae Scrubbers. Got mine up & running finally. No crazy growth for 1 week!! Still alot of GHS but not noticable growth at all.
