Ok, So this 20 gallon is about 6 months old, and about a month ago this insane amount of green hair started, its covered everything, Everything checks out phosphates are 0 no slime algae, and once a week 10 to 15% water changes, 3 emeralds a lawnmower blenny 4 clowns and a sixline, im worried because this rock will be transfered to our 46 thats cycling in a month, and i want the crap gone. Will an algae killer work? I have taken rocks out and tooth brushed it off and it grows back thick and quickly, and i have to be carful with the once larger large because Xenia are attached to it, We have a T5 fixture one actinic and one 50 50? not sure what the other is, both are about 3 month old bulbs, theres 90 gallons of filtration i even bought a UV sterilizer,... still nothing its even growing out of my pumps,

if I scrap it off will a yellow tang help eat it if it re grows in the 46 gallon?
i also buy Distilled water at lowes or purified which ever it is, in the 5 gallon bottles and use that for adding water and for water changes.

please help,,. im so fed up I hate lookkng at it

I believe your tank is overstocked leading to your current problems.

It may kill it but it most likely will not prevent its return. We need to get to the reason for the growth before a lasting solution will be had. Your readings are zero because the algae is taking up all the nutrients.

Please answer all of the following question to help us help you.

    What size is your tank?
How much rock do you have?
What are you using for filtration?
What type sand do you have?
Do you have a sump? Refugium?
How often do you clean your equipment?
    Do you have a skimmer?
How often do you change your water?
How many fish do you have?
How much and how often do you feed the fish.
How long are the lights on each day?
How much circulation do you have?

The 46 is too small for a tang unfortunately. I messed your stating you have 6 fish in a 20 it is definitely too many fish. That will be a full load in the 46.
