I need some new test kits, I think mine are junk. I will order some and post the test results.

True, however it becomes extremely important to make sure the temperature, pH & salinity are the same (or as close as you can get it). Otherwise you risk damaging or killing fish and invertebrates.

Conditioned tap water is fine for most cases. This isn't an sps tank. Its simply a fowlr at the moment, and the tap water has absolutely nothing to do with my problems. I have ran 2 other succesful tanks with the same water and never had clarity problems with either one of them.

Just a curiosity question. Let's say my rock IS leaching phosphates or something. What would be the best way to go about replacing it? Grab some new dry rock and throw it in the sump and slowly remove my old rock a little at a time?

That would work. You would have to make sure the dry rock was getting established before you could pull any out if the display. That could take some time.

Or you can cure the dry rock in a separate Rubbermaid container using the water from the display so you dont waste it etc. This case, you wont shock the system, worked well for me.

Just wanted to say I just got done cleaning the tank and fuge after a LONG time of neglecting the tank. Redid some of my electrical which was a MESS. Moved the powerheads around, and cleaned the skimmer.

Now I am working on trying to put together a list of things I need to get the tank straightened out. Plan on picking up a BRS reactor and some GFO. Already have a spare Mag3 in the closet. Also need to mod my skimmer to try and kill some of the microbubbles that have been making it to the DT. Going to scrap my crap powerheads that always fall off the wall and pick up some MUCH needed koralia's with mag mounts and higher flow. Pretty excited to try and get this tank cleaned up and get some softies in it!!!

Congrats on rededicating yourself to the tank.

If you can put a bubble trap in your sump and slow the flow through it to around 10X the sump's volume.
