I am surprised this did not get more responses. Well, I was hoping for more anyway.

I had decided to stick with my current lighting system and buy what livestock it can accomodate until the price on LED's comes down to realistic levels that is unless I found some really cheap MH system to hold me over in the meantime. I am hesitant on MH due to possible heating/cooling issues and not really sure on LED's but from what I have read they sound like a good light source alternative, just expensive.

Does this seem to be a good deal? Are these systems not adequate for aquariums? I know the appear to be single ended MH and I would rather have HQI's but I have not seen anything this cheap anywhere.

I do not know who makes the bulbs but for $90 you could buy the system and replace the bulbs and still come out ahead, right?

Even though I have done my share of research I still feel like a Newbie and would appreciate everyones input and hope to benefit from their past experiences/knowledge.

Hmmmmm. Don't know. My knowledge of MH is limited at best. Does seem too good to be true though.....

Looks to me like a cheap indoor grow light with 14-20k bulbs.

Whats the difference between that and an aquarium light retro kit? The wattage and the kelvin appear the same.

Asking because i have no clue.

Looks like that is a SE MH bulb, so it won't need a glass to keep the UV out. That applies only the DE bulbs.

Well, it is 400w, so not really many aquariums are needing that much light. Well, if it is a tank over 3 feet tall.

Then it probably has a cheap chinese bulb, and he reflector is ok, but far from top notch.

i second that that ballast looks incredibly cheap and will probably get almost as hot as the bulb.
skip it you want a electronic ballast not magnetic.
