FSU, a few things to think about

    - DO not 'throttle down' the return to the sump!- asking for a flood.- always 'throttle down' the return pump- if needed.

    - the major advantage of flex hose is WAY less loss of flow vs 90 degree bends- if that's a problem- flow that is. It does make it easier to plumb it tight areas however.

    - If it were me, I'd go with large amounts of chaeto - works for me- no sand in sump either- for me that is

Thanks. The ball valve is on the return flow pipe, not the overflow pipe. I'm not too concerned with flow. My sump holds 10 gallons of water (space for 20-30) and the return pump is rated for 420 gph at a 1 ft head. I already have 1,140 gph of flow in my 20 gallon display too. I plan on having chaeto in the middle compartment where the eggcrate is (no sand or rock). The skimmer and the phosphate reactor will be to the right of the chaeto. The return will be to the far left of both of those.

    Sounds like a good plan.

Unions are a good idea. I have several throughout my plumbing.
I apologize for giving you bad information. I am not familiar with bulkhead threaded fittings and was not aware that you cannot thread PVC fittings onto a bulkhead fitting. Again I'm sorry and feel bad.

No worries. It's the thought that counts.

Lol, thanks. All the other fitting info was correct except the bulkhead. Hopefully you'll get it squared away quick.

Crap! I broke the screw/nut that tightens the bulkhead!

Where do I get a replacement?
