Anyone think the return line from the sump should be insulated somehow? I was wondering last night how much energy the water lost on it's way back to my tank. The tube is only maybe 3.5' long but the room does drop to around 65 on occasion.

I doubt it would make a huge difference. Unless your return is like 6ft long.

I think the loss would be very minimal, but I looked at a formula to calculate it and it made my brain hurt. So, you can run the numbers haha not my strong point.

The hose itself is pretty good insulating material. I wouldn't worry about it.

I wouldn't worry, you might lose .5 degree.

I'd be willing to disregard half of a degree as negligible. Soon as it gets a little colder again in the next few days i'll take some temps above and below my return line and I'll feel better. Thanks for the input though guys. I'm at ease again and I promise I won't go running to wrap my bed blankets around my lines.
