A friend of Dr Fragenstein and mine, Tom H, is an Electrical Engineer for Rockwell Automation. We had this same conversation on our local fish club forum, and the same argument came up.

Having read and heard Tom H's reasoning, I do not want to be the ground probe, I will rather let my ground probe take the amps.

Now, remember folks, low power house outlets WILL kill you.

I guess all of us are seeing this 2 ways--to protect us, or protect the fish.

hahah I did not take it personal, I just did not want to offend anyone. This is a good topic, as there can be many ways to look at this subject. That is why I started a poll! I kinda wanted to see everyones understanding of ground probes, or if they just added one because they were told they had to!

So you just stick it in your tank and plug it in? or is there something else to it?

Yes, yes.......This article is old and has been debunked before. He mixes fact and fiction (unprovable theory). Here is a portion of the article that proves him irresponsible; "My belief is that if there are any stray currents in the tank coming from an electrical appliance, the solution is not to try to draw the current away with a grounding probe (symptom), rather, the appliance must be damaged and should be replaced (cure)".

He inadvertently "slips" here and admits the probe draws current away, exactly what is intended of the probe. What does he want you to do, stick your hand in the water to see if you have faulty equipment? Absurd! Bottom line is, they do what is intended of them therefore, use them.
