I actually got some clear silicone from Petco made by Allglass, same company that makes aquariums, and it of course is fish safe.

I hear you can use GE 100% silicone from Lowes or Home Depot though and it works fine. It's probably less expensive too.

I received my black plexi that was pre-cut from eBay and completed the black overflow. I also took the overflow a bit further with a router and an 1/8" bit cutting groves for water flow. I also made cut outs for the returns.

I didn't catch if this aquarium was glass or acrylic, but when bonding acrylic to acrylic where there is a need for strength and hold, silicone will not hold (I tried it, waste of time and money!).

Weld-On #4 is what I used to make this aquarium. It is almost like water. I guess if you are attaching an overflow to your tank, there is not as much of a need for seam strength say as the actual aquarium. I would use something like Weld-On #16 which is an acrylic cement instead of acrylic water :)

Very nice job on the overflow! I ended up using a different overflow because of the black paint. It wasn't worth the risks.

Thanks for the info, is the Weld-On easy to apply? Never used anything like that before.

My tank is all glass, so I figured silicone would be fine... not seam strenght needed really, just a divider in the tank...

Ah, for all glass to acrylic without needed strength, silicone should be fine. Weld-On would not work for glass. I use this for glass aquarium applications:
Clear Silicone, Waterproof Sealant, Aquarium Sealant from Loctite Adhesives

Weld-On takes a little practice to apply. Here are some links with pretty good instructions for acrylic use and fabrication.
