Just bought a yellow tang and am now unsure if I want to let it out of the bag into my tank. I have two perculas, one is on the smaller side at about 1 1/2 to two inches the other is about double that. I also a large lawnmower blenny. The tang is about three or more inches and when I started floating the bag it went a little crazy when it saw the smaller percula. Now that I have it floating it looks like a monster compared to my other fish, could this be a problem?

IMHO - No - the Tang is showing signs of wanting to get out of the bag and to be "Where da other fish at"

Never had a single issue with Yellow Tangs and non related fish species

Now I had my heart set on a hippo but now that I have the yellow tang I suppose that kinda ruins it for me on the hippo.

the yellow and hippo usually get along. basically because of difference in body shape. but hippo would out grow your tank . but excellent choice in the yellow.

I had a yellow and Hippo in same tank

I think an accurate description of their relationship was " both fish refused to accept the other one actually existed" - totally oblivious to each other , Hippo was tiny compared to yellow though so size may have some effect

If your going to mix tangs, it would be best to have added them at the same time. If your still keen, try to find a tang from a different genus, eg. Ctenochaetus (Bristletooths, Kole) Naso (Lipsticks Tangs) or Arcanthuridae (Tail rings, Clowns, Sohal, Mimics). Adding another tang for the Zebrasoma genus would be a likely candidate for aggressive behaviour and can cause the breakout of marine itch and other problems.

    Hope this helps,

As stated above, the mix is fine. They are different colorsand have differing body types. The hippo will outgrow the tank if you decide to get one, but it will take years if you get one of comparible size to your yellow. I wouldn't have any more than two tangs in your tank though. I feel I am going to be pushing it by having two in my 90 when I get my powder brown.....
