So im trying to breed a pair of clowns eventually but right now im trying to find the right species. I found 2 fish i wanted but they are not a pair, i would have to buy 2 separate fish. Would they still become a pair if i introduced a small and a medium sized clown? or will they just fight?

Duck, it depends. I have been very successful in pairing clownfish (well im 2 for 2) both pairs started off in my tank as a single large female (first was bought as a pair and male died), and I added a very small male to the equation. I have done this with GSM and aussie black percula.

If it were me, find you a larger female and then find the tiniest little clown you can to go with. your chances of success are much greater that way. it also helps to have the female established in the tank. both of mine went at least a year or more alone before male introduction.

all that said, I have not personally witnessed eggs in my tank, but they are paired off. my Aussie black perc pair sleep in the bottom corner of the tank. it took a whole day for them to pair. the maroons took like 10 mins. either way, I dont think I saw any agressions.

I may have to buy a small and a medium fish then.

Would i be able to buy a percula and a black clownfish? or should i stick to same kinds?

same kinds IMO. get hte most dominant one you can find and then also the Least dominant one. IE, if they have two tanks, get the largest one out of one and the smallest one out of the other.

here are mine. you can see the size difference

What I would do is buy a single clown, wait a few weeks for it to change genders. Then you introduce a VERY young clown to assure its a male. My clowns paired in a day with very little aggression. Good luck!
