I always wanted to start a reef tank, and about six months ago got started. I had a 29 gallon, a 56 gallon and just purchased a 90 gallon. I was warned by many people not to start, and sometimes i am sure they are right. My protein skimmer(s) (I have had several) all start out fine than go crazy and frustrate you. I am sure I have the nitrates under control and then they go up. I have yet to do a water change (and I seem to do them several times a week), that I don't feel like I have been scuba diving. I have found this board helpful, though everyone seems to have a different opinion.

I recently purchased a fluval G6 and was sure that would be the answer to any easy running tank. Now I discovered it too has issues. All of that being said, I decided to start all over and purchases a 90 gallon tank, reef octopus protein skimmer, Eshopp sump, a pondmaster 9.5 pump and a few other things. My fish seem to be thriving, but I made the mistake(I think) of plugging my drilled 56 gallon and removing the wall that hid the pipes.

Anyway $1500 later I should have a new start by weeks end. Now all I need to do is sell the three week old Fluval G6, the Fluval 405, my Eshopp 75 sump, a 56 gallon drilled but plugged tank, a stand, an Eshopp HOB skimmer, a bubble Magus 3.5 and a maxspeck R LED light.

As you can see the hobby has hit both my time and pocketbook hard, but somehow with al the time and money spent, I am enjoying it.

Anyway, I am glad there is advice here. Now does anyone know how I can sell all of my previous equipment, fast and I am sure cheaply??

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Craigslist is your best bet.

    Welcome to 3reef. :)

Sounds like you have the beginning for a decent tank with the 90. Octopus skimmers from what I have read do a good job.

And your right everyone will have many different opinions, take everything with a grain of salt and look for first hand knowledge and experience.
