Well, I've been a member on 3reef for a couple of weeks now and reading threads for even longer...I must say that this site is ridiculously addicting! And seeing how everyone likes to introduce themselves, I figured I would finally do the same.

About a year ago, I decided to set up an aquarium and was convinced that it would be a fresh water Bala Shark tank. I took a friends recommendation and made a visit to his former LFS - one that happened to also be specialized in marine livestock. Needless to say that by the time I walked out of the store I was convinced that I was going saltwater. I ended up being fortunate enough to find an amazing deal on an almost complete used set-up at my local LFS....70-gallon tank (w/ overflow and euro-bracing), stand, sump, skimmer, pump, live rock and cycled water for $600. I ended up purchasing a PC fixture as my lighting.

Being 100% new to aquarium care, I was a bit nervous to start adding livestock...so I took it slow and tried to do some research before each buy. I also quickly realized that I was seriously interested in corals. I actually bought a Candy Cane coral before a fish!...I was already hooked and didn't even know it yet. That being said, my planned FOWLR setup instantly turned into a reef:)

My tank is approximately 11 months mature. Unfortunately, as it goes with inexperience, I've already lost a few corals, fish and inverts along the way with my journey in successfully trying to keep a reef aquarium. I admit that I always do my homework before a purchase, however there always seems to be one more thing that I didn't know...and the end result causes much grief. But that's part of the learning process I guess... Lets just say that I was quite stoked when I finally stumbled upon this site and all of its informative power.

    ------------------------------
    My current livestock:

    Ocellaris Clown
    Yellow Tang
    Blue Tang
    Blue/Green Reef Chromis
    Cardinal fish

    Cleaner Shrimp
    Emerald Crab
    Scarlett hermits
    Nassarius snails
    Astrea snails

    Candy Cane coral
    Green brain (closed)
    GSP
    Yellow Fiji Leather
    Purple Mushrooms
    Green/Yellow Zoo's
Acans (3x, don't know their names)
    Red Lobo
    Torch coral
    Frogspawn
    Orange Plate
    Yellow Sun Polyps
    Orange Ricordea
    -------------------------------------

I very much can't wait to dive into the world of SPS. However, due to my limited lighting system (2x96W PCs) they will have to wait until my next tank....which is already being reseached and planned:)!! For now, I'll be sticking with LPS and I'm a becoming a big fan of acans. I also realize that there is still sooo much for me to learn and figure out with this amazing hobby, and my current 70-gallon provides the perfect environment to do just that. But please don't get me wrong, nothing goes into my tank w/o the complete confidence and expectation that it will survive, and thrive.

So, I know everyone LOVES pictures, and so do I, but I'm a bit confused how to add pictures within the thread...does it have to come from a URL? Oh well, I'll figure it out eventually and I promise to post some pics soon.

welcome to 3reef, glad to see another OCer on here. And a good way to post pics is by using photobucket then putting the link into the mountain symbol in the text area. Can't wait to see some pics

If you scroll down on the thread posting page, or advanced reply page there is a button called manage attachments. You can ad pictures through there, or you can link them from another image hosting place.

    Welcome to 3reef.
