Okay, in my noob days, I stuck a few paly frags into a couple of crevices in my live rock. Now over a year later, the frags have become colonies, DAMNIT!!!! They are starting to encroach on other corals and I want them eradicated. Taking the rock out of the tank is not an option, it is base rock for my reef structure.

What do I do? I have a majano wand, on loan from a friend in my reef club, but I am worried that when I zap them, the palys will release palytoxin and kill everything. I have zapped them before and notice that surrounding corals were very unhappy. Yes, I am running carbon, I have two bags of chemipure in my return system. Other solutions? Any and all advice is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jim

I feel your pain! I had some Green Implosions that I would *peal* off the LR. Was very time consuming to say the least. The smaller ones are much easier to remove as they don't have a solid *mat* yet. The bigger ones I grab at the very base and slowly peal them off. They do release toxin. But the closer to the mat you can grab them the less they release. Good luck :)

I have dealing with this in 2 ways. I will place flat frag discs where the palys are spreading and let them grow onto the disc for a week or 3, then I rip them up. It contains them and I have a frag to sell or trade. I have also used 2 part epoxy, and made little containment walls. And you can pop them off as well. After you rip the frag disc or epoxy wall up, you just replace it. Never ending frags to trade at my LFS for credit!
