    Quoted from the above link...

What to do if you get bit!

The bite of the blue-ringed octopus may be painless but it is definetly deadly. Its venom contains some maculotoxin which is more violent than any animals found on land. This poisen is 10,000 times more potent that cyanide. Upon being bitten, the victom's nerve conduction is stopped and paralysis sets in after a few minutes. Paralysis is then followed by death. Some symtoms are as follows:

    *Nausea

    *Blindness

    *Loss of all other senses

If you do see someone get bit you should immediatly call 911, and then apply compresion to the wound as if it was a snake bite. Artificial respiration should also be started as soon as possible. The only way to survive is hours of heart massage and artificial respiration until the poisin has worked its way out of the system. There is no anit-venom to date.

    Quick Facts

The blue rings are only visible when the Blue-ringed octopus is about to atack
It has a tiny, parrot like, beak that can bite through your wetsuit
The Blue-ringed octopus is only the size of a golf ball but still carries enough poisin to kill 26 humans in minutes
The poisin is not injected but comes from it's saliva
They are found in shallow coral and rock pools in Australia

Definitely more dangerous than zooanthids, and likely more dangerous than most cone snails, tho I am not positive. ;)

i think that the cone snail is the most dangerous cuz, u either live or die...lol also for zoos i heard that they had the most venemous toxin in the sea? maybe just for corals lol...

i was also thinking, does anything think a 3 gal tank might be 2 small for a mantis shrimp?

man...i always wanted to try and raise a herliquin shrimp...but im not sure if i can deal with purchasing stars and putting them into the tank to their death...

That depends on the mantis. If you keep a n. wennerae, 3 gallons will be plenty. If you keep a peacock mantis, 3 gallons won't be enough.

As for harlequins, I keep a mated pair in my 2.5 gallon nano. They are beautiful shrimp and I have no problem with feeding them but that's just me :) Remember though, mantis or harlequin, you'll have to sacrifice animals to keep them fed. Mantis will eat frozen/freeze dried shrimp but you'll have to supplement that diet with snails and/or crabs to keep their clubbing appendages in good working order.

I feed them a chocolate chip starfish every week or two. In fact, you just reminded me that they're due for a feeding :) I got my pair from www.justphish.com but he might not have a mated pair available. Can't hurt to ask though :)
