My brittle star is now about 12 inches. Each time I add small crabs they disappear in a week or so. Believe its the very large starfish? Does anyone have an idea why my crabs are disappearing. Thanks Rick

Its hard to say at this point. Have you tested your water params? if so, what are they at. Swings in pH and iodine are invert killers. Temp can be too.

    Are they hermits?

Are you finding any remains of the crabs or are they just gone?

Have you heard any snapping sounds coming from the tank, especially at night? (possible mantis shrimp)

How long has the tank been set up?

All that aside, depending on what kind of star it is, yes, some will eat inverts and even fish. Any pics?

I had to get rid of my brittle. They get large fast. It is not worth risking your fish to it. I was bummed when I did get rid of him. He would come out to take fish out of my hand. Would be good for an invert only tank.

From what I've read, I think your brittle star may be the culprit.

He may be the culprit, but don't rule out other possibilities until you are sure. One common mistake is to assume the most convienent answer or 'most likely' is the correct cause. Hope you find the answer
