are you dosing just iodine? if so its not recommended. if your dosing supps with iodine in it there should be enough in your tank to match the other elements. there is iodine, iodide, and iodate, the later being the worst of the 3. total iodine should be around .06 ppm of all put together.

    er some things remove it

    HI,
Ive read some where if you use carbon it will remove almost all of the iodine solutions in the water, so you may be fighting with your carbon and not realizing whats happening.
And as previously stated water changes will keep iodine at the ideal level for most things.

    Water changes alone? No additive?

Great post Doug!!! Karma to you.

While the myth that carbon removes trace elements is completely false. Iodine would be the one element that it does remove. In fact, in addition to TSA (Total Surface Area), Molasses #, etc. One of the ways that carbon is rated is it's Iodine #.

This iodine debate and level is another test and worry also. I'd just do away with I have never seen any benefit from its use and never tested for it in over 25 yrs. But I seen lots of problems from dosing of it..Most all of the foods we feed contain enough levels to sustain the fishes needs and thats all I ever added never from a bottle.
