Iodide test

I recently bought a seachem iodine,iodide test, my water stays @ 0.006mg/l
to 0.008mg/l since the day i got it, the instructions indicates that you wait 20 to 40 min. for the peak reading...???... does anyone test for iodine? I understand
that my bio load is some what insignificant at this time and that iodide is used quite frequently..amounts of iodine,and iodide are already present is the salt mix
but I have tested now for over 2 weeks and i haven't know it's any difference need help!

Other then to be used as a coral dip the need to test for Iodine is less then the need to add iodine.. I'd not add any myself feeds the hell out of algae problems ..and there is no proof its even needed for an aquarium.. But many feel the need to dose it still .. But as with a strontium test idine is a hard element to get a solid test on.

^ +1, does the concentration of Iodine in Kent Trace Elements and Purple-Up feed cyanobacteria as well as algae? I thought shrimp needed Iodine to help molt too.
Tangster, if the iodine in Purple-Up and Trace Elements is too much to be used regularly, what do you recommend to supplement calcuim? I know Epsom salts to raise Mg, Vinegar to decrease Alk, and Baking Soda to increase Alk...are water changes enough for calcium replenshment with Instant Ocean salt mix?

I still add every now and again' but it's rarely needed .
Every time I take a reading of it, it's hardly used up ( but i havint a great load on it yet )

 

Unless you have alot of stony corals, water changes should take care of all of your calcium needs. We use a calcium reactor and a kalk reactor but for those who can't/don't run them, we usually recommend calcium chloride (which we buy in bulk as it's cheaper than the stuff you buy at the local fish store).
