i really want coralline in my tank even though its only over a month old. i got some pieces of rock with coralline on it but i dont think its spreading. ipsf sells these plates that are covered with the coralline and you just put them in your tank. should i try this or is liverock the way to get the stuff growing.

Just take a screwdriver and scrape the coralline you already have into the current. The spores will spread.

Patience and proper calcium levels, lighting and once again patience. Coralline is already in your tank, give it time. Skimming also removes coralline spores to some level. Some people get uncontrollable growth they get annoyed by, some people wish they had it. As for myself, I have just enough but unfortunately more dark green than purple. You dont have to get no disks if you have it in the live rock, you could even get some scrapings from the tank walls of some stores or local reefers to seed the tank if you want but the main thing is to be patient in this hobby. Your tank just finished cycling probably.

drip kalkwasser, dose iodine, use purple up, and do the scraping technique.

you will have more coralline than you can handle.

enjoy. oh and right about the 2 month mark i think almost every tank has a big explosion of coralline growth, it will be EVERYWHERE all over walls rocks snail shells etc... high flow helps, just let it spread like crazy and don't try to control it. then scrape what you want off the glass when you're happy with it.

Don't waste your money, having the plates wont' do much as long as you already have it in your tank. I still think it's funny that people are obsessed with getting coraline in their tanks, when you have to scrape your tank every few days, you'll be singing a new song.
