sounds like your going to be busy Iraf

is the problem Algae and Cyno related ?

stripping the tank and starting again seems like drastic measures to me

are you running GFO ? as even severe outbreaks of algae can be dealt with by removing nutrients and regular water changes coupled with some manual cleaning of the rocks - it declines and then it goes away IME

I assume that the problems you're having has to do with algae from your live rock? If so, are you really going to buy more live rock (assuming that the Fiji rock that you plan on buying is going to be live)?

Been doing 20 gallon water changes weekly, the day before I do them i get in and scrub everything the best I can and within 2 days everything is just coated with LHA again
Not sure what the red stuff is but it's not cyano this is a hard packed non-slimey substance whatever it is and no I was looking at changing out the sand and buying all new base rock, almost all my fish are dead anyway the month I was unable to do anything after shoulder surgery was pretty much the death of my tank since my bestfriend moved to san antonio for work and my wife hates the tank anyway, all the corals are gone with the exception of some zoas and rics I managed to frag out and move to the nano, somehow my clam is doing stellar in the 90 though lol

Also the other issue here is time, we are getting ready to put the house on the market as we need an upgrade desperatly since having the boy last year, so having a festering algae cess pool in the living room is a big turn off obviously, the wife is actually willing to let me play with the budget to get it cleaned back up as quickly as possible which at this point I think curing new stuff might be a better idea than dealing with stuff that I'm just not that happy with to begin with

wow, under those described circumstances, sounds like your doing the right thing Iraf

getting base rock sounds ideal to me, no uninvited guests at that stage at least

I'd definitely go with the dead base rock as well seeing as live rock seems to have caused you the algae problems in the first place.

Well it's officiall just ordered 100# of pukani base rock from BRS, called the LFS i got the frag from and was in the mindset to just cuss him out but he was pretty open to talking about what happened, told him hey i bought a frag from you a couple of months ago that pretty much wiped out my tank, he apolagized said he actually has had to tear down 3 of his coral displays because of the same issue now, he said it's a species of byprosis not a LHA and he battled it tooth and nail for 3 months before just breaking the tanks down and killing everything in them off

He's going to sell me some sand for cost since I cant find anywhere that can sell me the exact sand I want for a good price plus shipping.

Guessing I should take everything outta the fuge here to, also going to remove the CA reactor while I'm at it since it's been nothing but a pain in my rear since I bought it, finally got it all working now it leaks around the top seal constantly just sick of dealing with it I'll go back to dosing b-ionic

well I'll hand it to BRS, ordered my rock a couple of hours ago and already have a tracking number, putting this on my calender for a rebuild next week, need to catch my formossa wrasse and get it over to my buddies 200g predator tank now I think when I start readding fish I'm going back to predator with softies only going to set my nano up with a new light soon and start LPS/SPS/Clams on it
