*lalalalala* hold your horses! I'll find some...eventually...that shrimp is sneaky. You take your eye off of him for 2 seconds and it'll take 10 minutes or the entire day to find him again. Still hasn't repaired up with his goby...

I didn't mean to cause any frustration or commotion with this thread, and I havn't been around this site long enough to have seen a previous one. I apologize if this type of thread is unwanted. I have 3 petcos and 3 LFS. My experience with the petcos is that they have a 1-3 person aquatics staff that makes sure the tanks are healthy and know what they are doing having kept tanks. However, many other employees do not understand the key points of a tank like cycling, stock limits, and compatibility. I am actually a petco fan, I just have observed that the local petcos don't have enough funding or tools to have a great aquatics section. 2 of the LFS are great and very helpful, refusing money to do what's right for the animals. The third you have to know how to deal with in order to get advice out of them. If you don't know how to deal with the staff they will give you bad advice. Again, I apologize if this thread is unwanted.

    my 2 cents

People learn in different ways- some jumpin and see how it goes, others who have plenty of spare time and enjoy reading will do months of research - i'm kinda in between the 2.

Fish keeping is a hobby and should be enjoyable and rewarding but will take a long trime to get used doing it properly which ever way you choose to go about doing it.

Just bear in mind everyones been a beginner at some point, there was probably someone feeling how you are now when you bought your first equipment and livestock.

my lfs wont let you buy a fish unless they check your water to make shure its sutible and do tell you how to save money and wat corners you can cut and witch you cant and dont sell you some thing you dont need. I have very educatied lfs workers they all own at least one tank the owners are marine bios to. yes there prises are a little high but it all pays off

Im by no means saying I was never there. I threw 4 mollys in my uncycled 10 gallon when I started. I just happened to get intrigued and learn. I had my time as somebody who was uneducated in the matter and now I look back disgusted with myself at all of the fish that I killed due to ignorance and not understanding the nitrogen cycle.

I think people may have overlooked all of the good LFSs. I know that most of the LFS i've been to are good.

My comments were not directed at you specifically it just kills me to see these because the normally start out as I went to petco and..... then within 1 or two responses people are calling to boycott all petcos and saying how bad all of them are. I just think that this is just asking for trouble.

As for a LFS that refused to sell me a fish because they didnt test my water that is the last time i would go there. Think of it this way when you go to buy dog food or whatever do you expect the store to quiz you on the dog and you knowledge before giving you the food or treat you as an adult and sell you what you want. If a person decides to own a pet it is on THEM to research and prepare properly by either the internet, books, or going and asking questions. If i want a fish or what ever i believe it is my call to learn research and then decide not have someone tell me what i am or not ready for.

    Off soapbox.
