Is a 10 gallon sump enough for a 75 gallon?

I found a great deal on a 75 gallon, but it has a 10 gallon sump. Is the sump big enough? (it has a built in skimmer so space isn't the issue)

ya thats fine. i got a ten gallon fuge on my 55. i just keep my skimmer, a filter sock over the overflow drain, and some chaeto algae. throw some chaeto in yours it will help with nutrient export.

When you setup the 75g are you keeping the 20g? If not you could use the ten till you transfer everything out of the 20g into the 75g. Then make the 20g into a nice sump/fuge.

Do you think the equipment would stay the same if i used my 20 gallon as a sump? Like the pumps ect. & how does the filter sock work, and also wouldn't they get expensive ? People say to change them multiple times a week!

Your equiptment would stay exactly the same. You would just have more room. You could even seperate the sump with baffels made of acrylic, to make a bigger fuge. Is it a 20g long? Check out some of the sump pics on here. Some really nice systems.

As far as socks go, they last a little longer than you think. I belive you can rince them out and even wash them.

You can put the 10g into the 20g and have the 10 be a refugium. A tiny pump in the 20 pumps water into the 10 which simply overflows back into the 20. Keeps the refugium clear of all the turbulance in the sump. I did it previously with great effect. Tons of copopods, algae, a mantis. It was good.- Paul
