Is a 29 gal All Glass tank better than an Oceanic 29g Bio-cube?

I am thinking about buying my daughter a small tank for her kids to learn about saltwater fish with a few softies. I keep seeing 29 gal tanks as the size of favor. My LFS has both and I'm big on T5's for lighting so here is where the problem begins. Is there another option as I've only seen 24" or 36" lighting and I was figuring on a 4x24 fixture. All glass does not make a canopy for this size tank (30x12) but a little FIY can solve that as a last resort. I want to try and keep the cost under $700, preferably around $500 would be better. I'm open to suggestion.

I almost purchased a biocube but opted out of it for this very reason. The lighting design they have kinda pigeon holes you as far as coral. Sorry I couldnt be of anymore help. If you do come up with a DIY let me know.

from a tank perspective, oceanic is better than allglass. as far as tank options and styles?? personal perspective i think.

i am testing a retro fit LED lighting for the oceanic biocube...so far so good. zoos, mushrooms, xenia all look good so far. they been on for three wks now.

    Oceanic - 10 year warranty
All Glass - 2 year warranty

Only had one tank leak within warranty (and many tanks) and it was replaced on All Glass with no issues. But I have a 120 from them now. Find the size that works for what you want. It's more expensive to replace later than buy what you really want now.

I see where your heading with the LED's as they are the option of the future and I think they will flurish tremendously. I just can't swallow buying a product that prophetically claims to be a plug n' play yet needs all kinds of FIY. I mean I just don't get it except for the fact that you can put it on a table and have no lines or wires running below is the only reason I can come up with that makes any sense at all. Unfortunetly my daughter will probably opt for the all-in-one unit. We shall see...

It's funny. The only tank I ever had leak brand new was an Oceanic. That was just a fluke; and was some time ago when there was a big difference between the two. They are both made by the same company BTW.

I have a 40 gallon breeder from AGA sold as a Top Fin brand from PetSmart that has a limited lifetime warranty. Was under a $100; included glass covers. 40 breeder is my favorite size for small tanks
