Will - thanks for the info. Gotta couple of follow-up questions; 1) how has your experience been purchasing fish over the Internet and 2) do you really need to quarantine the fish upon arrival?? I believe most people do not have quarantine program in place, so is it that necessary.

I ran my first 2 reef tanks for 8 years and never quarantined anything. I was lucky and never had a problem. Like the commercials say though, *these results may not be typical. At the time, money was tight for me and setting up a QT tank seemed like a hassel. Just remember that It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye, or until you add 1 fish or coral that gets sick or carries in a nasty bug and you have to tear apart your whole tank. The bigger your tank, the more expensive your livestock, the more attached you are to your livestock, or the less you can offord to loose most everything in your tank... the more you need to QT all new arrivals (yes, Fish and Coral).

There is another important advantage to having a QT tank set up and that is that it allows you tom make sure that your new arrivals are eating. It's probably easier to get a shy new fish to take food my himself in a quiet QT tank than getting him to eat when he is tossed in with a bunch of established fish who are trying to protect there turf and compete for food.

My strong recommendation is to do the right thing and set up a QT but if you decide to forgo this advice you will have lots of company.

BTW this seems like a good poll question and so it will be.

I haven't ordered any livestock off the internet for around 6 years, so i'm no help there. only heard great things about liveaquaria. the last time I did order fish online, I had to travel 2 hours + to an airport to pick them up due to them not making it onto the delivery truck.

I didn't see a need for quarantining until I got a sick fish that died and left me with a tank full of ich. I now wont be without one for as long as i'm involved in this hobby.

Will -- took a look at the dwarf angel fish link, thanks, but they caution these fish could be reef nippers. Any advice on that issue, I want to eventually begin stocking corals.

    Thanks, Tom

just catching up in this thread but, i have a kole tang and he doesnt touch the tiny patches of hair algae i have right now.... the yellow tang might be better if you start with a smaller one. for sure qt your tang when you get it. They are very prone to ich. Mine got it as soon as i got it home. It did recover very well though.

Ive had a blue tang in my 24 gallon nano for 3 years and it has great color and seems to be doin great....had a 36 watt pc on there for most of the time. For the past year he has been the only fish in the tank with about 30 lbs of live rock and 20 lbs live sand.....mushroom corals, torches, polyps, snails and hermits.

Wow a blue regal in a 24 gallon? 3 years old... how big is it?

I have a yellow tang and a rabbit fish.. so I can comment on both. They both destroy algae in my tank. The yellow is probably better. It always picks at rocks.
The rabbit if I toss in some nori, will go crazy. Mine are also decent size. "Tango" is about 3.5 inches and "Foxy" (foxface rabbit) is about 5.5"
    My girlfriend named them lol

    K+ for asking!
