    Hi All,

For the past two weeks or so I've been dealing with cyanobacteria (I think). I read online that cyanobacteria is a red (usually) slime that spreads rapidly. I think that's what I have, because it is a reddish/brown color and comes back quickly after I clear it away, but it's only spreading in one spot. One section of the sand and part of a rock. It is also hairy, the hair flows in the current, and I don't remember reading that cyanobacteria is hairy.

I increased flow, have been doing 10% water changes every week and cut back on feeding, but what I think is cyanobacteria keeps coming back.

Anyway, my main question is, is cyanobacteria hairy, or could this be a different type of algae?

    Thanks a lot!!

I was feeling all good because I had the normal diatom blooms, those died off, and my tank was algae free (only a little green on the glass). Then over night the cyano hit and now it's a major pain!

I hope you don't get it too!

Haha hopefully not! My tank cycled really fast and I added fish a lot sooner than you...so maybe if you get it it will show up later. But hopefully you won't!
