    Alright, now......I had a Jaubert Plenum the last time I dabbled in this hobby and experienced some of the problems people are now talking about, algae blooms. bubbles, poor water quality...etc. Now I am starting over. I have been following Beamer's thread, and some of the links given there and other posts......and now, besides a great big MIGRAINE, I have a very apprehensive feeling about putting anything other that like, 1 or 2 inches of sand with LOTS of stirrers in the main tank. However, I feel there is a benefit of denitrification in the deeper sand bed. The problem I see is this, evenutally, they are all nutrient sinks more or less and become saturated and crash. Removal of it within the main tank is hazardous at best, what with the hydrogen sulfide possibility.

    Question is, would a DSB in my 20 gallon Fuge/Sump be enough to handle a 60 tank? My thinking is, that in a couple/few years, when the inevitable crash comes, I can shut that off from the main tank, clean out and replace sandbed, and put back into the system with new water in it without any detriment to tank inhabitants......

    What do yous guys think?

    That is certainly an option with a remote refugium. That coupled with the bare bottom approach described nby mojoreef you should be fine. Rember that Mike, aka mojoreef, has a 700 gallon bare bottom tank that is nothing short of spectacular!

    Yeah, I was checking out Mojoreef's site.....His stuff is SMOKIN'! His comment reminds me of my hubby, he said his wife said he could only keep one tank, BUT she didn't say how BIG!!!!!

    It certainly is Beautiful! ::)

    Would I have any problems if I removed some of the sand be? I've really been thinking about doing it for a while, but it's about time I think.
