i found 1 of these guys at the LFS today. i have been reading about this fish and i found that it will eat shrimps and fish but i did not find anything about corals. i saw some movies on youtube with this fish in a reef aquarium.
so is this fish safe for corals? what about starfish and cucumbers?
i know this may need training to eat prepared food and it requires live shrimp and fish for a while but i want to know if it will do harm to the tank inhabitants.

They don't do anything to corals.

As long as it is not housed with fish smaller than it's mouth (there are sometimes exceptions to this..) then you should be fine. And other than maybe "perching" on a coral, they do not pose a threat to them.

I would NOT put a lionfish in a reef aquaium, but others might have other opinions. IMO you would have problems with it eating your CUC...It can be done but just be careful what you put in.

I wouldn't either..i've been down that road before. I though it was really cool at first..then got frustrated because I couldn't add certain things.

IMO if you stick with just adding fish/inverts that get along with everything to your tank..you'll be a lot happier.

    Agreed :)
At first it might seem really cool, but in the long run you would not be happy because you would not be able to add certain orginisms

i already have a pink marble starfish and a green and pink sea cucumber. i'm worried about these. i have peppermint shrimp and a cleaning shrimp. i know the first pray will be the peppermint.
down the road this 75g tank will be modified to a refugium to a larger reef tank. i need to move to a larger place first (hoping this year) probably then it would be the den to that lion

ive had several lions in the past and never really had a problem in a reef tank. just cant have any tiny gobies or what not. also just like stated no ornamental shrimp but hermit crabs will be fine.

The guy that got me into this hobby back in 2000 put a dwarf lion in his reef cuz he thought it would be cool. 2 months later he hated it because all it did was sit there (and eat his inverts & smaller fish) LOL.
