I wish I would have known not to clean mine. I did it at the worst time. I stired everything up by moving the tank then took away the thing that could help the most. The package deal with the mag 12 was $480. That's $100 more than i was expecting to spend. the mag 18 bumped the price up another $100 so i stayed with the mag 12. The guys in the videos on youtube were using a 12. If i can make mine give the results they have been getting I think my worries will be over ... i hope.

The coral in my tank look much better than they did when i first set it up. Things look like they are coming back from where the girl saw nothing but decline. I've already had 2 new dragon eye zoa's pop up in one of the colonies after one week of being in the new tank. I had them in my 30 biocube before. I am worried about the newly aquired hippo tang. The first day in the tank after the move the tank had little white specs on it. I figured it was due to the high nitrates at the time. The other fish are fine. I put the hippo tang in my 30 so i wouldn't have to dig through my new setup to get him out if he died. Now it looks like he's lost all his slime but seems to still have high energy. He has a dull color. The white specs are all off. I have several shrimp in the 30gallon to help with cleaning him. Any sugestions on how i can bring his color back so he can return to the big tank? I'm guessing it's a waiting game at this point? Will being in the 30 gallon cause him to get worse? The water quality in the 30 is much better than the 135 last time i checked but he's about 4 inches long. He's been sitting infront of the koralia nano powerhead swimming into it. He eats seaweed without hesitation when offered.

Thanks Tigermike! good to know! I know all about the power hungry PC's too. I took a server board and turned it into a 64 bit workstation with 2 quad processors, 16 gigs of ram and 5 DVD drives to run an 8 bay raid tower. When i'm burning 5 dvd's at one time it sucks juice like an overflow.

I've just learning how electricity works here so bare with me. I am very grateful for the help. When the company quoted me 10 cents per KW hour they are saying i pay 10 cents per killowatt per hour? As in 11 killowatts per hour (if consistant) would be 11x24 = 264 killowats in a day? for a total of $26.40 per day? That dosn't add up to what you're saying above so i must have somthing wrong. Does killowatt per hour have anything to do with actual time?

A kw/hr is a 1000 watts for an hour. 100 watt light bulb uses 100 watts of power in 1 hour. So take you lights, those are easy.

2x250 watts= 500 watts of power for an hour. So at .5 kw/hr at 10 cents a kw/hour for say 8 hours a day.... It is costing you 40 cents a day to run, or $12 a month.

Your pumps are on for 24/7, but use much less power. Add up your chiller the same way, but it isn't going to be running constantly, and it will only be on when your lights are on. Same if you have a heater, it will only be on when the lights and chiller are off.

Google power consumption calculators. There are several out on the web. I don't have one handy.

That's a good sign, your tank is seeing the benefits of a good skimmer now. My initial thought was a stock EV-240 is overkill on your tank, not even considering overdriving it with a Mag18. Besides, when you overdrive a skimmer, you have to plumb it with a ball valve to throttle it back some. (just an FYI in case you ever want to upgrade the pump). As for the tang, I would put him back into the 135, give him the water volume he needs and put a cleaner shrimp in with him if possible. Tangs are notorious for getting ick. Little nitrates, *bang* there's ick, feed a little too much, *bang* there's ick, feed too little, *bang* there's ick, look at them the wrong way, *bang* there's ick. I may be over-exagerrating a bit, but they are sensitive fish that are highly prone to ick. Good thing is, when they are exposed to a stable environment, they will fight it off naturally. You can help him by soaking his food in garlic supplement to boost his immune system.

Thank you very much PowerMan and TigerMike! That is very useful information. I've copied it into a word document so i can go back to it later in case i forget.

Does the garlic supliment need to be for fish or can i get somthing at walmart in the supliment section?

I would get Seachem or Kent Garlic, use something that is intended for marine use to be safe. Human consumption products contain tons of phosphates to preserve the product.
