Is it ok for the light to be this high up

    The egg crate should help keep the fan out of the water.

    That is tough to position well, don't blow the fan directly on the water but across it.

    ok. right now i have it blowing directly on the water but ill adjust. I bought another fan thinking i would need two for the tank but ill see if a single fan is enough

    so i was doing some maintance on the tank today and i was trying to figure out where else i can put the fan because i really didnt want to have my light fixutre up so high so i think i found a spot for it, i hope it will still be able to cool off the tank

    I think that will do well given the large size of the fan.

    i hope the fan is only 6" and it only blows half way across the tank. So far temp is staying around 80 and here in the house its 85

    That sounds as though it is doing it's job. I think if you needed to you could raise it up to top level and let it hit the light and it might do better.

    yea im going to try to raise it somehow
    their not allowed in my housing track, other wise that would be an option :)

    I have a tray of emergency RO/DI ice cubes in case of sudden overheating. Lifting your light will help the temp a bit, but it will also affect the PAR amount of lighting your corals are getting. It's a catch 22.
    I think you are good where you have it now though.
