Is it ok to keep the skimmer off for 1 or 2 days

You would be fine without a skimmer. You are so fresh out of your cycle that your bacteria will still be used to having no skimmer on. Running a skimmer is more to keep your live rock in good condition over years. My tank ran overstocked with no skimmer for over a year with no ill effect.

 

you should be able to finely tune the skimmer and get rid of those micro bubbles. when i had a few bubbles coming out of the skimmer i just added more are to the pump inlet and after a few hours and ever since its been clean clear water.

 

Open the air valve completely. More air means slower flow. Maybe you need a less powerful pump.

 

the skimmer is not her only filteration, rocks and sand are filteration as well.. you will be perfectly fine without your skimmer for 2 days

do you have a ground probe though puffer chick? as it might not be the absence of bubbles that are making the fish more relaxed you could be leaking some electricity from the pump in the skimmer which could account for the fishes reaction

You will be fine without the skimmer for a while. Using melafix requires you to turn it off for a week. Just keep in mind the skimmer does aerate the water too so just make sure you are providing good flow for oxygen exchange for the fish.

The only problem is that turning your skimmer off does not fix the root problem.

 

+1 on the leaking current! maybe thats why the fish seem jittery, grounding probe?
i run skimerless for maybe a week at a time sometimes, just because the h2o in my sump is running low. no ill efects. then i do a water change though.

thank you all for the great replies. I had the skimmer turned on overnight, the bubbles have since reduced, but there is still a lot. Right now fish aren't very active, i guess their still in the sleep mode.

But it was just crazy the difference between their reaction with the skimmer off and having no bubbles in the tank, than with it on.

And at least i know it is ok to have the skimmer turned off for a few days if needed.

 

so i turned off the skimmer tonight, i just can't take the amount of bubbles pouring into the tank. I keep on adjusting the air tube and it doesn't do anything this time. It used to and it was really able to reduce the amount of bubbles. I probably won't be able to order a filter sock until monday or tuesday. So for now i will just have my skimmer off. I just can't take it anymore.
