I got a couple of nice zoo frags at the LFS and got a hitchhiker with them.
Anybody know this critter...(excuse my non-drawing abilities but the darn thing is so small, 1/4" or so, that I had to draw it 'cause pics were not coming out, I will try to get a pic if I can find it again.) From the top it kinda' looks like a pillbug. Seems to be content roaming around the rocks eating detritus and algae...the shell part is definitely soft and pliable!!

What is the whitish-yellowish stuff? Is this part of the critter?

    Maybe a limpit
    Maybe a chiton
hard to tell. The pill bug body makes it sound like a small chiton to me.

Great drawing BTW, I like it :D

Its a type of seal slug (nice drawing, easy id) it is either a close relative of the reticulated sea slug (Oxynoe antillarum) or is one. This particular genus feeds specifically on clpra algaes (almost always grape type). If your give it grape algae it can reproduce prolifically, but if you have some and like it you better loose the critter. Birdlady just found a similar one on her algae. I would bet the keep there macro algae in the same tank as the zoos....of pump water in from a fuge, or it was kept with that type of algae at one time, or that typ of algae was kept in the same area as the zoos at one time and the slug transfered to the zoo....sorry i just feel like ranting... k im done ;)

Thanks gang...great responses and links. Caulerpa is illegal out here in California so that is not a problem. I can't get it anyway. And yes fishy that is the snail part of its body, the part that oozes over the rock. I will follow up and let you know. Hopefully it will present itself for a pic!!!
