Is it possible for a fish to vomit?

I originally was overfeeding my fish but learned a few days ago the proper timeframe to feed them. They have not been fed since Tuesday so they will get dinner tonight.

I was watching my one damsels on Wednesday and it looked like he vomited twice. Each time a big wad of food came out of his mouth but he wasn't fed since the day before, and he did not just eat something he found in the tank.

Is this normal?

 

How would you know something like that?


My damsels constantly find food in the tank... I feed 2x a week but it's not like they go without eating between...

Fish routinely spit up their food and go after it again... I don't know that it's "vomiting" but I wouldn't worry about it.

 

+1. On numerous occasions, my trigger has swallowed more than she can chew and has spit it out later and breaks it up into smaller chunks.

 

What I actually meant was I didn't see it eat anything prior to this happening. Sorry for the confusion.

Glad this is a common occurrence. First time I've ever witnessed it, so I'll mark this down as something new I've learned today.

 

Maybe he partied too much the night before and is a bit hungover.
