    Hi there,

My tank has been cycling for about 2 1/2 weeks now and my Ammonia, Nitrate, and Nitrite have all been zero for over a week. I bought cured live rock from premiumaquatics and had a minimal Nitrate and Ammonia spike the 1st 3 days. I bought my tank from a guy who had a saltwater setup and along with the tank he gave me a wet/dry filter with bioballs. I used half of his old bio-balls with a few new balls i recently bought when i put the tank togther to keep some benefical bacteria.

I am also about to add a fuge tomorrow that i am finishing up tonite for nitrates, water volume and pods. It will have 20lbs of ls and cheato.

Is it time to add a few snails, hermits yet over the weekend?

    Keep me posted

    Thanx Adam

Adding a fuge may cause a slight cycle in your system. I had to re-do my fuge and it created a small cycle that my anemone did not like at all. Add in your fuge, wait for the cycle to settle again, then add in your livestock. :)

I have 10 margarita snails in my 20G. I used to have 15 hermits but they have all died off of old age and haven't been replaced. I would say for a 55G tank, you will want about 20-30 snails and like 40 hermits. I would get a mixure of them all. Get some turbos, margaritas, ceriths, etc. Get a mix of blue and red legged hermits too.

In my 55 I keep about 100lbs of LR.

About 150-200 snails without die-off (about 6 different species).

About 12-15 hermits (mostly blue legged).

I haven't had any algae outbreaks since after my initial cycle outbreaks. These snails keep it in check. Tank is very clean.
