Is it too soon to add fish

My tank has been set up for 1 week now I have a 12 gallon nano tank. I added 11 pounds of live rock 2 inches of agronite and 3 gallons of water are from a established tank. I added 5 blue leg hermit crabs, 5 snails (not sure what kind) 3 days ago they seem to be doing fine. I am going to the lfs tonight to have him test my water again if he says its safe to add fish should I take his advise? like I said the tank is only a week old and I find it hard to believe that it is cycled already any suggestions.

 

I would not add fish yet.

Don't you have any test kits? You can watch for the cycle on your own with the following kits..
Ammonia
Nitrite
Nitrate

 

About your post, is everything in the nano from an established tank? or was just the water.....

 

Just the water is from a established tank. I plan on getting a test kit soon the guy at the lfs said he will test it for free, he said I can get buy without one for now the only one he sells runs about 50 dollars is that right? Any test kits cheeper?

 

Retail price on individual test kits in my area are abot $9.99 per kit. You can get them cheaper on Ebay or online. There are many different brand names. If you search the threads you can find suggestions for what people consider GOOD test kits.

Thanks guys for the advise on the fish and the test kits, I will hold off on the fish. Is there anything I can add to my tank right now or am I lucky to have my cleanup crew alive?

 

there is one testkit that is about 20 dollars. I know they have it at most stores and very cheap at petsmart.

that's only 15 bucks and that's all you need for the moment.

 

That is a very good price for that test kit That is the same one I started off with and if memory serves me I paid $30.00 for it. :'( I now use all salifert for my tests but they can be a little pricey...................... John

Definitely get a test kit like the one hoodoo listed...great price. You can better keep tabs on the cycle that way. You should get an ammonia increase then decrease, followed by the same in nitrite, then in nitrate.

 

How about adding some Bio Spira?They have it for SW now.
