Is it true that you have to wait 24 hours before adding freshly made saltwater to a tank for a water change? If so, why?

    Thanks,

because usually, fresh mixed saltwater has a really high Ph at first. Some people really stress the need to make sure it is mixed really well and aerated with a powerhead before using it in an aquarium, but there have been times I skipped on this rule, and not just in emeergency situations.

No, it's not true. What is true--is to make certain the salt is fully dissolved, and the parameters of the water are close to the parameters of your tank.

its better to wait and let the water sit with a powerhead, but not necessary

I usually wait 24 hours now and mix with a powerhead. Before I would mix and add, never had any issues, just make sure the salt is fully dissolved.

a lot of these guidelines where invented before RODI was the accepted norm for makig saltwater - if you used conditioned tap water in the old days, then 24 hours was recommended to allow chlorine to dissapate
