    Here is an article discussing it in more detail, it's not that old, 2003. It sounds like freshly mixed water is harsher at least on some animals than aged water. I believe, depending on your reef inhabitants it could have more or less effect. A lot of people use freshly mixed water with good results but I don't think that guarantees that it will work for everyone.

    Personally I play it safe and age it. It's also nice to just mix up one big batch of saltwater one time and use that for several water changes, just my personal preference.
