I have about 50-55lbs of premium live rocks in my tank. I want to get about 20-25lbs more. Someone suggested buying lava rocks then glue them together to make desired shapes and place them amongst my live rocks and they will turned into nice live rocks with time. Does this make sense? Lava rocks look very porous so I have a feeling they may work. Of course, this will be after a thorough cleaning process.

ive heard don't do it because it has alot of metals in it, also sulfur and phosphorus. how much of the metal would leech out over how long? i have no idea. btw this is natural lava rock comes from .....valcanos(big surprise i know)

there is another man made that comes from smelting and this "should" be safe because of the high temperatures the stuff that leeches is cooked out. but being man made not all of it will be the same. anyway i wouldn't take the chance

A while back someone brought this up. They wanted to add what they thought was lava rock to their tank. It turned out to be made of concrete. If it is actually natural lava rock, I probably wouldn't add it. It has a lot of stuff that wouldn't be great for a salt water tank Sostoudt mentioned. You should just try to buy base fiji rock, it's cheap and will IMO look better and meet the same goal.
