I have a green bubble tip anemone, tank established for 2 years, just put anemone in last night. Without breakdown of levels, they are all at an excellent reading, temp. 80, 75 gal reef with a clownfish and a sailfin tang. The tips of anemone are very flourescent green. the mouth, light gray center, is totally exposed, as the tips are only on the outside and it has settled on the sand bottom next to a rock. It's expelling waste, clear with small tan balls in it occasionally. Two 150 watt MH 14k lights. I detect no odor. Might it be dying?

They will expel the water within them and take in the new tank water. They will inflate and deflate to acclimate to the tank water. Which brings up the next question, how did you acclimate the animal before putting it into the tank?

tuff to say with out pic. but it could be adjusting to your system. I would give it some time before I would say it is dying or not.

I acclimated by floating about an hour then slowly adding water from my tank until I doubled the water in the anemone bag. I'm working on adding a picture of the anemone to this conversation

You acclimated it properly from what it seems. How long did you take when adding the tank water in the bag? With anemones (actually all inverts), I usually acclimate over the course of 3-4 hours and add 1mL of tank water into the bag, so it is very gradual.
I would just say keep an eye on it. They will inflate and deflate to equilize their body with the tank water. Once they get settled in, they shouldn't deflate more than once a week.

Thanks to everyone who posted a reply to my question. The store where I purchased the anemone took it back. It had expelled its guts and didn't look like it would recover. Again, the water tested in excellent condition, as did the tank as a whole. We may try again, maybe...

If they took it back, kudos to them. If it reacted to be removed, it may be able to be saved by your LFS if they care for it properly. Anemones are strange creatures and can be tedious to care for.
