So I have had this Lyretail Anthias for about three months now and it is exhibiting some odd behavior; I think. It acts like a hawk fish for much of the day, by this I mean it will lay sideways belly against the rocks completely still only moving its eyeballs. He darts out and grabs stuff I cannot see and swims for a bit and repeats.
Is he hunting? I try to feed twice a day but I am not sure if this is enough due to the behavior. Any ideas would be great, this is my first anthias so any info would be helpful.

In the wild, the Lyretail Anthias feeds mainly on zooplankton, so hunting pods, etc is perfectly normal. As long as he's getting a varied diet and appears fat and healthy, he should be fine.

Thanks tunamike, and if he's fat he's happy works for me, I have just never seen an anthias act this way in any of my buddies tanks. Maybe because he is the only fish, idk?

Being the only fish makes a big difference believe it or not. In the wild, when there are no fish around, it means trouble. So it takes fish a while to get comfortable if they are the only ones in a tank.

I wasn't aware you could keep anthias alone.

From what I have read I agree, however the store had only the one so I am in the process of tracking down a female.
    Hopefully soon!
